Servitas awarded 360-bed student housing project at Santa Rosa Junior College

DALLAS, TEXAS— Servitas to deliver first time on-campus student housing at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC). The five-story project will include 360 beds at affordable rates, helping to minimize housing insecurities of students at SRJC.

The Sonoma County Junior College District (SCJCD) board of trustees officially approved Servitas as developer at its Tuesday, April 9th meeting. The College hired The Scion Group to perform a feasibility study with the goal of assessing SRJC’s need and availability to provide affordable, quality residential housing for students. Research showed that, after the California fires, 7% of students they surveyed planned to leave SRJC and an additional 30% were considering leaving due to the cost of housing or housing insecurity (source: Scion Student Housing Survey; +/- 2.29 margin of error).

“Housing insecurity is a major concern for SRJC students and Sonoma County residents. The SRJC Student Housing Workgroup worked diligently to help expedite this project that will bring affordable housing to our students,” said Vice President of Student Services, Pedro Avila.

“SRJC is more to our community than just a college,” said SRJC President Frank Chong. “We aim to support students, even outside the classroom. And what many students need right now is a place to live.”

The housing development will be located on the corner of Elliot Avenue and Armory Drive, near Highway 101. The new student housing will accommodate 360 beds ranging from single, double, and four-bedroom apartment style units, with prices starting at below market rate for students.

Servitas Vice President of Real Estate Development, Angel Rivera, said “This is a special opportunity to offer students a living-learning experience at below market rents. This facility is designed to be very green, offering sustainable housing that reflects the values of SRJC students, faculty, administrators, and the surrounding community.” The full team involved with this development includes: HPI Architecture, Design Collective Inc., Wright Contracting, BKF Engineers, MHP Structural Engineers, Guttmann & Blaevoet Consulting Engineers and George K. Baum & Company.

The College released a press release announcing Servitas as developer and disclosed other information about the process of moving forward with student housing. Read here for the full story.
