Bayview Student Living Fully-Leased for Spring 2017

Bayview Student Living, a brand new on-campus student apartment community developed as a public-private partnership at Florida International University – Biscayne Bay, has filled to more than 99% occupancy for the Spring semester. This is an increase of 15% over the fall semester when the building first opened.

“This effort was the result of a hardworking and dedicated on-site management team coupled with the continued extraordinary support of our partners at FIU,” Brian Sellen, Servitas Management Group’s Senior Vice President of Management Services, said.

“It is almost unheard of to see this large of an increase at a student housing property from Fall to Spring semester. Bayview Student Living’s Community Director, Matthew Hilst, and his team have done a great job creatively marketing the benefits of on-campus housing at FIU BBC while simultaneously creating an environment that exceeds the student’s expectations,” Sellen said.

Introducing on-campus housing to a campus that did not have it for the past three years posed a unique challenge for initial lease-up.

“I think students were skeptical at first about living on-campus, but after they were able to see the completed facility and experience it for themselves, they immediately saw the value in not only the building location and amenities but also the resident experience we provide,” Hilst said.

Bayview Student Living opened in Fall 2016 and is located on-campus at Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus in Miami, Florida. At 410 beds, Bayview offers students full kitchens, private bedrooms, a resort-style pool, a 24-hour fitness center, FIU classrooms, and study spaces, all with picturesque views of Biscayne Bay.

The project was developed by Servitas on an unsubordinated ground lease from FIU as a P3 financed 100% with tax-exempt debt and is managed by Servitas Management Group in close collaboration with FIU.
